Sheri's Baby Quilt

Summer is full swing around here and we are soaking up every moment of it around here. Evenings sitting on the deck and weekends camping means lots of photos but little scrapbooking lately. That and laptop has been on the fritz lately ... argggg!

A dear friend of my husband from high school is about to have a sweet baby girl so I put my newly honed quilting skills to use and created this sweet pinwheel quilt for her.

A pinwheel quilt typically has buttons sewn in the center but I thought that might not be too smart for a baby quilt so I left them out.  I think it turned out pretty cute which is a good thing see as I hugely over estimated my fabric requirements and now I am left with enough to do two more quilts!

Gave it a Try and Finished!

Do you remember this post?   The one where I declared to you all that I was giving Quilting a try and taking a class.  Well here's my finished product.  You'll have to excuse the numerous photos but to quite honest I am proud of this one.

I really did learn quite a bit in the class even though I have made a quilt before and now that I am armed with more knowledge I think I might make a few more.  I just need to find an easier way to do binding because that part (hand sewn) is not my favorite thing to do, plus my finger tips were killing me come the end!

Giving It a Try

I have tried quilting before but I was basically winging it with advice from other quilters but without the basic knowledge and understanding. Don't get me wrong, most of the time things turned out passable but if anyone who knew anything about quilting or sewing for that matter took a look at my quilt, they would see I have no idea what I am doing.

A dear friend of mine asked me if I would take a quilting class with her and seeing as my hubby bought me a brand new sewing machine for Christmas which I was dying to use I jumped at the chance!  We had out first class last Saturday and for the last couple of days I have been working on my homework.  Who knew quilting was such a precise craft?!  For someone who has never been that good at measuring and who always says that's close enough this has definitely been a challenge!  My seam ripper and I have become good friends!  I am definitely looking forward to next several classes as I have two other quilt projects that have been started but never finished as I got to a point where I did not know how to move forward.  Check back at the end of the month when I will hopefully have a completed quilt to show you!
