Weekend in the Woods

It's One Page Sketch week over at Sketch Support and today is the day my project is featured. I am sad to say that this is my last project as Guest Designer. I have had such a great time working with Allison and Sketch Support and look forward to hopefully working with them again in the future. I sure hope you have enjoyed my projects this month and be sure to keep following Sketch Support for lots of great ideas ... I know I will! For all the details on this layout, please go to Sketch Support where you will see lots of photos and all the necessary info to recreate it. Thanks for all your kind words and support!

Oh Brother

I love my brother! He has always been the jokester but come on it was such a nice moment to photograph and was a wet willy that appropriate?! I guess I can now say I have photographic proof that he always starts it ... not me!

So today is one of those where were you when moments. Prince Charles and Diana got married when I was too young to remember. I remember where I was the day when Princess Diana tragically died and today is the day the Prince William marries his long time love, Kate. I am not big into the hoopla, although I did get up early (4am to be exact) to watch it,  but I'm thinking I might try to download a photo of them and do a page about it. What about you?

Serenade

At my last crop, there was a sketch challenge sponsored by Page Maps.  They gave us a bunch of sketches and we were to pick one and make a layout inspired by it and then submit it for judging.  This layout was based on the right side of a two page sketch; sorry I do not have the actual sketch.  Although I didn't win the sketch challenge I love how this one turned out!  A special thanks to Kacey for supplying the Alphas for the title, they matched perfectly!

Friends

This is a layout about my favorite Aunt and my husband.  They always seem to have a great time every time they get together and my brother's wedding was no exception!

I was so excited when I was planning this layout because my Aunt's dress matched Dear Lizzy Enchanted papers perfectly and I was dying to use them on a layout for quite some time. Not very often do I get to use purple on a layout but when I do, I go for broke!

Cousin

I love the bridesmaid dresses that Stephanie picked out for us to wear. Not only was it a pretty dress but the color is so perfect for me and my scrapboooking style!

I can't tell you how many patterned papers I have that co-ordinate perfectly.  In fact the hardest part was picking just one!  I really like this line by Basic Grey called Urban Prairie and seeing as I am in the photo I figured a little pink wouldn't hurt either!  Do you see that blue strip of paper?  It's actually a company that makes scrapbooking paper out of sea grass or was it banana leaves?!  Isn't it perfect!  I sure wish I could remember the company's name.

Father & Son

This is another layout I did at my last crop.  In fact, it was the first layout I did.  At the crop we got a few goodies and in those goodies was a stip of fabric flower ribbon.  I was so inpsired by this ribbon and that is why this layout came together so quickly for me.  I cut one of the flowers off the ribbon and then adhered it to the left of my layout.  It works perfectly!  I think using the whole strip would of been way to much for this layout about my Dad and Brother but I think one flower is ok!

It's All About Cake

I've had these papers for quite awhile but never found a use for them. I like them but when I scrapbook I tend to gravitate more towards brighter colours so the pastel in this line (called Koshi) were throwing me through a loop. That is until I got to the photos of my brother's wedding. Because he got married in Cuba a lot of the photos had very similar pastel colours so I took this chance and went with it. I really like how it turned out, even though I still had to add a bright orange flower to it. I could help it!

First Dance

This was a quick and fast layout that I did at a crop this past weekend.  It uses all 4x6 photos and a couple of strips of paper out of the My Minds Eye Love Me Do Collection and a few dies from their co-ordinating Die Cut sheet.  It really only took about 30 minutes to create and I think it looks great!  Some times it nice to just be able to get something done instead of fussing around with it for a couple of hours, which is what I normally do!

Applying to Graduate

I was planning some layouts for a crop last week when I came to these photos in my stack. I was so excited about what I had planned that I decided to stop planning and actually do it. Not a big deal right?! Well really, I had a lot to do and no time to do it in order to be ready for last weekends crop but I thought what the heck and did it anyways! This was such a happy moment for my husband who after 3 years of really hard work got news that he could apply to graduate from his Masters program. Of course I was there with the camera snapping photos the entire time and I was so excited to scrapbook those memories!

Walking Tour of Old Havana

Old Havana is really a nice area of Havana.  If you ever go to Cuba, you have to visit this area!  The streets are lined with beautiful old buildings, churches and monuments.  There is so much history and the tour guide was so knowledgable.  Of course, I don't know this first hand.  I chose to go shopping instead!  For those of you that know me that shouldn't be a surprise at all.  My husband did the walking tour and then told me all about it and showed me all the photos.  That was enough history for me!  And although I did miss out on some of the cool stuf (like Hemmingway's Bar), I did manage to get some really cool souvenirs though on my shopping trip.

This is actually a 12 x 32 layout. The extra 8 inches are contained within the flap on left hand side.

Here's a look at what it looks like with the flap open:

AKA

Angus is my little baby. We've had him almost 10 years now and he is very much a part of our little family! That being said, he has many nicknames given by different members of our family. Some of them are cute and have hidden meanings while others are about endearing qualities he's has.

I wanted the nicknames to be written in white but we all know that printing in white is impossible. So I found a font that was a negative of each letter and I was able to change the color to whatever I wanted leaving the letter itself not coloured. So when I printed it on white cardstock it actually looks like I printed white letters on green cardstock!

Rancho Gaviota

Another layout with some of my favorite photos from our jeep excursion in Cuba. I love the one of my sister-in-law riding the cow ... priceless!  Oh and the cactus hedge was so cool ... that is one way to keep the boys away from your daughter!

I had a bunch of chipboard shapes I wanted to use but they were all from different vendors and collection so to unify them a bit I highlighted each one with Glossy Accents and then added pearl gems.  It made them almost look like they belonged together in the first place.

The paper I used is from Crate Paper's Brook Collection. I have been saving it for so long and am glad I finally found some photos worthy of it. I also used a sketch by Sketch Support to help with the layout as I'm sure you know, we all get a little stumped sometimes!

I just realised this but I forgot to put the c in rancho!  Sometimes I get more pre-occupied with keeping the title straight that I do  worrying about the spelling!  I guess I'll have to pull this one back out and correct that!

Catamaran

It was the day after the wedding and we decided to take a Catamaran tour. Sure we were all a little hung over and tired after a night of partying but we made the best of it and had a lot of fun!

The banner across the top is actually cut from a pattern paper by October Afternoon.  Yes it is definitely a lot of fussy cutting but I love how it turned out!

This is actually a 12 x 28 layout. The extra 4 inches are contained within the flap on left hand side. I use these things called Flip Flaps from Creative Memories which attach to my page protector to give me another 4 inches of layout space. Totally sweet for layouts with tons of photos.

Here's a look at what it looks like with the flap open:

Saturno Caves

I love this layout but I have to admit, it's design is not mine.  I am a huge believer in scraplifting (the copying of another scrapbooker's layout) when I hit a design road block.  This layout was copied from a good friend of mine Haley.   She always uses products in the way I hadn't thought of.  In this one she used a full 12x12 sheet of patterned paper in the middle of 2 pieces of plain white cardstock, which was something I had never done before.  You can see her layout here, which I think is still way better than mine and isn't that son of hers the cutest!  Have you tried scraplifting?  Give it a try ... you never know when you will learn something new to get your creative juices flowing!

A Day at Spruce Meadows

I bought this paper a long time ago because I really liked it but I had a hard time finding photos that co-ordinated with it and the strong pattern.  That is until we went to Spruce Meadows for the day.  The colors were perfect and the grid layout was a perfect pattern for the jump obstacles and phone booth photos.  I love it when something works out well ... even when it is not planned!

Backyard Sunset

I think I might of gone a little crazy with the glass beads on this one!  Just like I talked in my last post about how some supplies are like fads, whenever I get something "new" that I have never used before, I go a little wild with it on the first couple of layouts.  I would even go as far as saying I plan the whole layout around it!

The Great Outdoors

Angus loves camping in the winter because when no one else is in the campground he can go off leash. It's like heaven to him!

I used Rub-ons on this layout.  I haven't used Rub-ons in a quite awhile.  Guess it's like style ... one minute you are all over a new style and the next minute you are onto the next.  I find scrapbooking is a lot like that.  Rub-ons were huge a little while back and I was big into them.  Now not so much but I still have a lot in my stash and I have been trying to use up my stash.  I wanted more dimension to the Rub-ons, so I added some glitter glue and glass beads to snow flake Rub-ons.  Seems to bring them a little more into "style".  How do you refresh some of your old products?

MacLean Creek

This is a layout about our first camping trip in our trailer. Yes it is winter but we were dying to try it out. It wasn't too cold but definitely cold enough where everyone thought we were crazy. Maybe we were but we has a great time and the campground was completely empty and peaceful.
